Struggling to Balance Business & Home? Here’s My Secret…

Hello Reader,

If you’ve ever felt like there just aren’t enough hours in the day to run your business, homeschool (or just handle family life), and still make time for yourself—you’re not alone.

I’ve been there too. Between running my business, homeschooling my kids, and keeping up with client calls, content creation, and marketing, I realized I needed a structured but flexible schedule that actually worked.

Here’s what I did—and what you can do too—to create a schedule that keeps you productive without burning out.

1. Time Block Like a Pro (Cal Newport, Deep Work)

Instead of constantly switching tasks, I assigned specific time blocks for homeschooling, client calls, content creation, and deep work. This reduces overwhelm and helps me focus on one thing at a time.

Example: I only take client calls on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 1-5 PM—no more random calls throughout the week draining my energy.

How You Can Do It:

  • Designate set hours for client work, content, marketing, and family time.
  • Use Google Calendar or a planner to color-code your focus areas.

2. The 1-3-5 Rule (Laura Vanderkam, 168 Hours)

I used to overload my to-do list until I learned this rule:

1 Big Task (High-impact: writing content, launching something)
3 Medium Tasks (Client calls, posting on social, homeschooling)
5 Small Tasks (Emails, scheduling, engagement, admin work)

How You Can Do It:
Tonight, plan tomorrow’s 1-3-5. It keeps you focused and prevents over-scheduling!

3. Work Expands to the Time You Give It (Parkinson’s Law)

Ever noticed how a simple task can take 3 hours if you let it? I now use strict time limits for tasks—like giving myself 45 minutes to write a blog post instead of 2 hours.

How You Can Do It:

  • Use timers (Pomodoro technique: 25 min work, 5 min break)
  • Set shorter deadlines to stay focused

4. Automate & Batch Your Work (Tim Ferriss, The 4-Hour Workweek)

I now batch my content creation:
1st Week: Write & batch 4 blog posts
2nd Week: Record & edit 2 podcast episodes
3rd Week: Plan and schedule social media
4th Week: Marketing strategy & business growth

How You Can Do It:

  • Pick one day per month to batch content & schedule ahead
  • Use automation tools like Meta Business Suite, Later, and Zapier

5. Say “No” More Often (Greg McKeown, Essentialism)

A big shift for me was setting boundaries. Every time I said “yes” to unnecessary distractions, I was saying “no” to time with my family or my most important goals.

How You Can Do It:

  • Set strict business hours (no answering DMs all day!)
  • Only take client calls on certain days/times
  • Create email templates for quick responses

Hi Reader, Let's be real for a sec... It's not all fun and games for us moms during the holidays. Between preparing the house with boxes of Christmas decorations from the attic that you asked your husband for weeks ago and ended up having to retrieve yourself because he "was gonna get to that", to cleaning up after kids who couldn't care less if they lived in a pig sty or not, who absolutely avoid homeschool during these short days but who also want to do ALL.THE. CRAFTS. ...Moms kind of get...

Hi Reader, I have a story for you—a real Texas tale involving a wild heifer, thick brush, and The Cowboy. Here’s the short version: We recently invested in cows to raise our own grass-fed beef. Everything was great…until the day they vanished. Cue the chase: Neighbors on horseback. My son on a minibike, his friend on a go-kart. Drones, ATVs, and even the sheriff's department. Days of searching, sweating, and waving down neighbors led to one conclusion: We needed a cowboy. A real one. Enter...

Hi Reader, Before we dive in, let me just say: if you’re not into learning about homeschooling, digital marketing, health stuff, or getting a better website, you’ve been warned. This email is basically me shouting from the rooftops about all the things I love. Feel free to trash it, laugh at my enthusiasm, or file it away for another day. We’ll get back to our regularly scheduled programming soon, promise! But if you’re still reading, here’s the deal… 🤩 Homeschool + Business Support = My Jam!...
